You only receive upgrades if you renew the licence each year. I don't know if it doesn't work beyond the year if you fail to renew the licence. But if you have a "few" businesses set up on it then £100 + £20 VAT is hardly a great cost when divided by the number of businesses.

Hi Arunas

VT will still work without renewing the software licence.

With the introduction of  iXBRL, VT Final Accounts however does need to be upgraded annually, and it only works on Excel 2002 onwards. Found out to my cost (literally) this week, when I did a version upgrade, and also had to upgrade Excel hmm

It was eye watering, decided to upgrade the complete office suite to Professional Plus 2010 (I like Access smile), as I've been running on Office 2000 since, well 2000. Suppose if it see me through another 10 years it's not too bad

Is it me, or does everyone feel like it's three steps forward, and two backwards?

Bill

Hi
I have been using VT Software for nearly 10 years, and clearly like the software.
It would be useful if we could have a forum for VT users, so that any queries could be shared.
I did ask VT head office for details of local users, but they said they are not allowed to provide this information!
I am based in Taunton, Somerset, and am a sole practitioner, who has been trading  for 11 years. I deal with all types of businesses.
I have had to purchase the latest version of the software, because from 1 April 2011, one can only submit Company Accounts in IXBRL format!

I use VT software for my "honorary treasurer work" and for final accounts - I find it very good. I have already submitted my first accounts in iXBRL format to HMRC using it - as I want to check if there were going to be any problems before 1 April. Seem to go smoothly, except my CT software (Taxcalc) produced an error message - but the help line told me to ignore it which I did - and it went through OK.

There is a VT group on AccountingWeb which I am a member.

I also run a Branch for the IFA (FT & IAB members are allowed to attend free of charge, others for a small entry charge) - we normally have one meeting a year on VT - simply because so many people use it or are interested in using it.
