What is the calculation to work out, how to claim the VAT back on Mileage expenses.

Eg. 1296 Mile @40p = 518.40, what can i claim back on the Vat return please.

Thanks Linda

Hi Linda,

I'm going to be lazy here and just refer you off to one of my old posts and via that to HMRC.

The important bit is that only about 11p of the 40p per mile is for Petrol but you need to use the HMRC figures to ensure that you are using the correct rate for your car.

kind regards,

Shaun.

Remember you have to have VAT receipts covering all the fuel purchases to back up the VAT claim, even though you're not actually claiming the VAT on the receipts. The European Court are insisting HMRC enforce this.
