Tax publications - any recommendations
Permalink Closed

I've just been on the HMRC website and it is frustrating trying to read up on a subject as there are so many links you have to follow. You'll click on one link and it will lead to a page with two lines on it. It's doing my head in trying to find things. And I have a cold. A MAN COLD.

So is there any publication that would be worthwhile purchasing that will have the bulk of these two line webpages included? I know there probably are some volumes of books available costing thousands of pounds. I'm more intgerested in the £100-£200 bracket.

Here's an example of what I mean

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
BIM14001 - Schedule D: Interpretation: 'Trade' or 'business'
Where the word 'trade' or the word 'business' is used it should be read as covering professions and vocations except in BIM20055 onwards and elsewhere where the context requires.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

That is ONE page. There are millions of links.

Hi Peasie,

I would recommend FL Memo Tax, it covers the major taxes and i think (from memory) it costs just over £100. I find it extremely useful as a reference tool.

EDIT: it costs £125, but you get regular email updates and online access, which is useful if you're out at site and need to look something up.

Hi Peasie,

The one I always found most useful while working in practice and which I will be investing in once I get up and running myself is Tolley's Tax Guide, this is updated annually.  Note as well that this is the guide you get as part of the ATT members benefits so I guess it's well used.  Sadly not cheap, about £75 or £99 if you get the eBook as well as the hardback.

I'd be interested to hear anyones thoughts on this book and any good alternatives.
