I have a new start up and hes about to go LTD, can he run it from his council flat?? He won't be employing anyone and is out in the daytime working, he basically will have a computer at home for his work to come via an email (sometimes), and most of the other time it will be from a mobile phone. I will be doing the bookkeeping and there won't be a lot of paperwork involved so there won't be hundreds of files for him to keep. As far as I know he won't have a designated room for his office within the flat. Can someone advise??? I think it would be OK, he will have his van parked outside but no tools etc will be in the flat and the the back garden isn't being used as a yard either.
Can't see there being a problem, although he may want to check his lease - if he was self employed, I can't see it stopping him from earning a living (after all, the Government are hopeful that all the people losing their jobs will suddenly get entrepreneurial). However, it may prohibit the flat from being used as a registered office, in which case he'd have to use another address.
Thanks for the info, I suppose he could use my address or his accountants address?? I know sometimes accountants offer to use there address for a fee, is there any reason why he couldn't do this? He won't be employing anyone its just himself, and he won't have people dropping stuff off of people calling at the door.
He should be able to use his accountants address (we offer this to clients, although I don't charge for it). There is a legal requirement that the registered office address has to appear on letterhead; in these circumstances, it means that 2 addresses need to be entered.
I am also pretty sure that if you used your address for his registered address, you have to prominently display a notice/ sign/ name plate? saying so, on your property.
Thanks, I think I will tell him to use his accountants address that will be alot easier. I only work from home so I don't have a sign out my business isn't that big yet! (wishfull thinking). Definatley seen a upturn since the end of Dec so hopefully things are turning now. Picked up 4 new clients and a 5th is iminent, hes a new start up and hasn't got enough paperwork for me yet. Hows things in Cornwall?
A tad damp at the moment (then what do you expect in the wettest county in the country ) A bit quiet on the bookkeeping front at the moment, now January has been and gone.
Registered office address does not need to be shown outside if it is primarily a residential property.
From a council point of view I am sure there is no problem running a business; however, you may want to review any tenancy agreements that are in place. If there is a van/ works vehicles this can sometimes cause issues, particularly with nosey neighbours.
