Hello to everyone on the forum! I cant believe I have only just discovered this site. After a quick look I can see how helpful this site is going to be.
I am AAT quailfied (2008) and currently unemployed, concidering book-keeping working from home but lacks confidence.
HI Kerrie, I am also new to the forum. I have been self employed since June 2010 and it is quite hard going getting bookkeeping work, but dont be put off - there is plenty of work out there, so go for it. Don't let lack of confidence be an issue, once you start to get into the swing of things your confidence wil grow. There are also a few courses you could go on this should help you. Sheffield University are running some business start up seminars wich may help 01142224044.

Kerri, this forum is a great resource, if you ever get stuck. There are probably not may situations, that some one on here has not come across and resolved. So I would say, bite the bullet, get a client and make a start. Your confidence will grow, the more you do.
Thank you for welcoming me and for the advice. Although I would love to go self employed asap, I do feel that I need to gain more work experience in finance before I could consider this. I am also wanting to update my AAT skills, feeling a little rusty at the moment.....I have been looking at some sage courses on ebay. There is still so much stuff to choose from!!
Don't worry, everyone lacks confidence for starters. Have you also thought about doing some temping work? If your really worried it might help to get the ball rolling in the transition from employment to going it alone.
As Bill says, if you have any problems there is normally someone around on here to give a helping hand.
All the best,
Shaun.
