Windscreen excess

I have an invoice for a replaced windscreen.

The breakdown of payments on the invoice is:

VAT at 20%     £141.72

Total Value     £850.33

Deductable excess     £708.61

Tax due from motorist     £141.72

Payment due from motorist     £90.40

The payment made by the company was £90.40. Can I account for VAT in this? Will it come under motor expenses? What does the tax due from motorist mean? blankstare

The amounts usually payable for windscreens are (a) the excess and (b) the VAT, if the policy holder is VAT registered. In your example, I would have thought the amount payable would have been the VAT. Where does £90.40 come from?

I really don't know. The list above is whats on the invoice. I can't work out where this amount comes from because the windscreen excess is usually £60. Could it be that the extra £30.40 is the VAT amount?

It sounds like the VAT is £141.72. How this then ends up at £90.40 I don't know!

If it's for a client, you may want to get them to clarify.
