Not sure if this is the correct place on the forum to post this, apologies if I've used the wrong section.
I'm in the process of setting up my bookkeeping business, serving local customers within leicester/leicestershire. I've purchased the bookcert kit and am eager to put the theory into practice. In addition, i have completed a bookkeeping course via distance learning with the DCA (Darnley Career Academy)
However, i'm unsure about what kind of registration i need? (e.g. practice certificates, HMRC money laundering regulations etc).
I have an A at A-level accounting and also a 2:1 degree in accounting and financial management. I have a few years accounting experience, my last job was a graduate job with deloitte in auditing (unfortunately i failed one of my ICAEW exams twice and had my contract terminated). I am currently studying for my F7 and F8 exams with the ACCA, with a view to being part qualified by August. Long time wise, I would like to run my own accountancy practice, with the first step being to build my business with bookkeeping clients.
As you can see, i have the academic qualifications but no real "professional qualifications". Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.

You have quite a few choices and options, but I don't think I would like to attempt to list them on this forum. The main reason is that these choices are personal to your situation and others may think they are relevant to them when they may not be - also I don't have the time.
If you want to give me a ring or contact me by e-mail, feel free to do so and perhaps I can explain some of them so you can consider them.
Sounds as though you are in a very similar position to a lot of PQ's on here.
as a PQ ACCA you can only offer bookkeeping services to trial balance, VAT and Payroll. Personally I found that this was not enough and had to give up on the idea of working as a bookkeeper until I have finished my ACCA studies (overstep what you are allowed to do as a PQ and you get expelled under bye law 8).
Can I assume from the "no real Professional Qualifications" line and "part qualified from August" that you had exemptions from all papers prior to F7? If so good luck with your first sitting in June espechially as your taking on two of the most difficult papers at that level.
Considering the restrictions that your student membership of the ACCA will place on you, with your experience and qualifications you might find it better trying to get a role in an accounting practice than set up on your own.
Good luck with whichever way you go and welcome to the forum.
All the best,
Shaun.

Thanks for the reply and advice. I had exemptions for papers F1-F5 and F9; I successfully completed F6 in December 2009. Not sure how much joy i will get with starting my own bookkeeping business, but with the current economic climate and jobs market, I'd prefer to venture into the world of business rather than continue signing on the dole, lol.
Do i need a practising licence of some sort to offer bookkeeping or will registering with the HMRC under money laundering regulation suffice?
