Net Wages Journal Error - How to Reverse
Permalink Closed

Hello,  I've not been using Sage for very long and recently had some brief one to one training and then got left to get on with it.  My problem is that I managed, quite succesfully to post wages journals for the relevant months, putting the gross wages and employers NI in the debits and the paye, net wages etc in credits and OMG they did actually balance.

However, I then posted journals to show the actual net wages being paid and somehow managed to post week 49 twice!!  I posted it from bank, payments and used nominal code for net wages, 2220.  In order to try and get rid of the extra posting I did a reversal, that didn't work and my net wages figure went up, so I did it again, and it went up again, and yes, I'm afraid I did it a third time too (somebody shoot me).

Now, my question is do I need to do new bank, payment journals showing the net wages as a credit in order to get back to where I was?  Is there no way just to remove the errors and start again?  I presume I should actually be showing the net wages as being paid and not just filling in the journals?

Also the company I am doing the accounts for uses many casual staff, all of whom are paid by bacs.  I have been entering, on the bank payments journal each individual payment, most of these tally with the net wages provided by accountants payroll page 2 statement, but there are a couple of payments which don't - some transposed figures etc, do I need to worry about these and how do I correct them.  Appreciate any help.

Hi Emma

Wow! Sage is not good if you make a mistake. You cannot delete a journal from Sage, only reverse it. Quick question, why did you post a journal to show payments from bank account? Cheque or bank payments should be a payment from bank direct to nett wages (2220) - which it appears you did do but also posted a journal? Sorry if I am getting this wrong but difficult to understand process you went through without seeing it. One thing I have learned with Sage - always back up if you are unsure of journals - then restore back up if you muck up!

Regarding casual staff payment, go with what ever was paid out of the bank or chq payment. If in doubt, ring accountant to clarify as the nett pay account will not agree come the year end.
