Hi, I'm just taking my last exams with the ICB and I know that I need to get the practice liscence and professional indemnity insurance.

I read on this forum regularly about MLR and I have no idea what this stands for or means. Can anyone tell me please?

Thank you

Rachel

Hello,

It stands for Money Laundering Regulations. You can read more about on HMRC's website here:

http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/mlr/

It's really important that you comply with MLR so it would really be worth taking the time to look into this further before you take on any clients.

Thanks
Ann-marie

Hi Rachel,

You could also check out www.bookkeepers.org.uk/mlr

If you are not currently offering bookkeeping services then you don't need MLR cover yet, it will be included in the ICB practice License, along with all the documentation etc.

If you are already offering services then contact the ICB as you do need a license now.

Hi Rachel,

Just to use an analogy that a lot of people come across - if you open a new bank account, you will be asked to provide evidence of your name and address, which may be through driving licence, passsport, utility bill, etc... It is essentially the same thing.
