Hi Guys

I have recently signed up with Kaplan to do my ICB 1 & 2 and computerised level 2. Didn't know what to really expect from home learning, however thought there would be a structure to it i.e doing some form of assignment to send back and get marked and work through the course that way.

But basically i get a box with the full ICB package and ive just got to read through it. and the areas i get stuck to call.

I have only been doing it about a month and they are aiming for me to take my 1st mock on 22nd April.. not ready at all as still getting my head round it all.

Is this normal?

I am doing ICB Level 1 with Training Link, there is seven units in the course book, plenty of tasks to do on each unit, at the end of each unit is a assignment to complete and send off to your tutor. At the end of the book there is even a large assignment to complete.  I have just completed the work book and have been sent a mock assignment to do before I do the live exam, very impressed with Training Link. It is very structered and easy to follow.  Kind Regards

Hi Ghislane,

feeling not at all ready is competely normal but you will surprise yourself at how much you actually remember when it comes to the exams.

quite surprised that there was no study timetable in your kit from Kaplan as that's something that I would have expected with all courses.

Getting everything at the same time in one box is going to seem as though you are expected to learn everything before you sit the first paper but that's just not the case. But try not to let the magnitude of the full course get the better of you.

Everything that you need to learn will be in the first book which I am assuming is the Kaplan ICB practical bookkeeping :Beginner / Intermediate.

Filling in the missing timetable, if we're talking about the same book then looking at the timescales that they've got you working to and considering that there are 25 chapters I'm thinking that Kaplan were looking at your doing a chapter almost every day. Most of them are between 10-20 pages so I'm thinking they estimate two to three hours per day or around ten to fifteen hours per week (allowing a couple of days a week for other stuff).

After studying for a month are you happy enough with the concepts of double entry and can you take that all the way through to a trial balance yet?

How far have you got so far? If you're up to bank reconcilliations chapter then you should still be on track for a mock on the 22nd even if it feels at the moment as though you are a million miles from being ready.

Good luck with the course and keep at it. Sure that you will surprise yourself when it comes to doing the exams.

All the best,

Shaun.

Hi Ghis,

I work for Ideal Schools and within our own course structures students are tested on a regular basis to ensure the course content is understood. Not all students take advatage of the tutorial support that is on offer by phone or email, but assignment & past paper completion is the only way that we, as a college, can ensure that students are preparing properly for their final exams.

I really hope that your study works out for you and that you get your qualifications as you progress.

Regards
Brian

Hi Guys

Thank you for your support.

Hi Sally Anne well i have also go my Mock exams in my box 2 mock exams per level and the answers to the mock which to me seems ridicules. I have a Kit book with all scenarios that im working through but they have not said i need to post anything to them just work my way through it.

Shamus- The timetable is just when they would like me to do the mocks. I am happy with the concept of double entry but when it comes to practical i find it harder i.e when you have creditors/ debtors . I got to chapter 8 the purchase day book, but was not happy with my knowledge so have gone back to the beginning with a fine tooth comb.

Course advisor- i understand that you are an email or phone call away but sometimes its actually difficult to pin point and explain where i'm finding it hard. so i just go over and over it again until it sinks in. But i suppose i thought i would get maybe like what Sally Ann said a few assignment at a time, see where my weakness and strength are and work on it, i just feel like ive been thrown in the deep end slightly.
