Skeleton Journals on Sage 50
Permalink Closed

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me.  I am trying to set up a skeleton journal on sage, so I can use it each month.  I have followed the help on sage, including checking the "copy skeleton journal box" in the preferences, however after I have named the file and input info into the description box and try to save/ memorise the file I get the following message - Unable to open file - does anyone know how to set up a skeleton journal, or what I am doing wrong?

Any help appreciated

That is the right way to go about it and it works on my Sage 50 2010 ok. I managed to memorise and recall a journal without actually posting it.

I assume you have read the help file on this although it doesnt tell you alot.

can you post up what you have ticked in the default company preferences to see if mine are any different? What version of Sage are you running?

Hi,

I am having problems pasting a copy of the preferences, but the following items are ticked:

Display active search popup, Access rights, Copy skeleton journal values, Login check, Enable smart totals, Log events.

I have already followed the advice on help, but it is of no use really.  I am running sage 20 2011.  If you have any further suggestions that would be great - Thanks

Hmm same as my sage.

try this, I have to run this setup as some of my reports and data paths got corrupted. not sure if it is linked though.

go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Sage\Accounts\ODBC32 and run "Setup"

the path might be slightly different depending on version of windows.

You can also look in the Company folder where your sage data is kept. in there is a folder called "Journals" this is where the skeleton journal files are saved. The company folders are normally named COMPANY.000 or COMPANY.001 etc...

If unsure where to look, go into sage and then click "HELP" > "ABOUT" > "SYSTEM INFO" then click the "Directories" bit. this will show you the path where the company data is saved.

Thanks for that, I have done as you suggested, but still come up with the same problem.  It seems that Sage is not reading the path.  I will try and get some IT help.

Thanks again for your input.
