Year End Payroll

I have a client who wants to run their Year End Payroll. They have asked if they can change all their employees on 647L to to 747L for the new tax year, without having received their tax notices? Also can she change all tax month 1 notices?

Hi Rob,

Re the tax codes, yes you don't receive new tax codings where someone's code is 647L - they will automatically go onto 747L.

Re the M1W1 point, I think so but not sure, someone else to confirm please?

They go on to a cumulative basis when the new year starts.

Hi Rob,

To re-iterate what Nick and Peasie have said, all employees with a tax code ending in L should have 100 added to their tax code (i.e. 647L becomes 747L, 553L becomes 653L etc). You do not carry forward W1 M1 on any codes.

Take a look at this helpsheet:-  http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/helpsheets/p9x.pdf

Hi Jill,

Yes i think that is correct. T stands for temporary code, so you may well receive a new tax code notice for them at some point.
