Changing Payroll Software - Any Suggestions?
Permalink Closed

Hi, after 7 year of using QuickBooks payroll, I have had enough and am pricing other cheaper alternatives.

I am fed up having to upgrade to a new package every 2 years or so at a cost of £200-£250 in order to use their payroll, which, of course, I paying for as well!  It wouldn't be so bad but the payroll used to be £99 per year but is now £250.

I am trying to keep my costs down, so I am planning to use QB 2010 Pro for a few years yet for my management accounts, and just use another cheaper alternative for my payroll runs, therefore I need software that will allow me to run multiple companies.  I specialise in SME's, so my clients do not tend to have any more than a dozen or so employees.

I would like one that can file online, and was looking at Moneysoft.co.uk, which is accredited by HMRC.  Has anyone any experience using this package, or any other similar packages that are cost effective and good?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks

Hi Julie,

Yes have used Moneysoft for the last 4 years and would strongly recommend it. It does everything that I want it to, including CIS, P11D's and online filings.

I would guess we run between 60 & 70 employers on it no problem.

Hi Julie

Also have a look at 12Pay and MyPAYE (which is a web based system)

Hi,

I am a fan of moneysoft, it very reasonable and it's easy to use, £132.00 Inc VAT, for unlimited companies with up to 100 employees per company.

Hope this helps.

Any particular reason Sheila? I use Moneysoft for one of my clients and find it quite good. Not used 12 Pay so can't comment.

It's cheap and flexible, easy to operate, compatible with HMRC for online submissions.  The accountant I work with uses Moneysoft and he does the payroll for one of my clients and it seems OK, I get a decent print out of the detail to enable journalling into Sage accounts but like you've not used 12 pay I've not used Moneysoft and people tend to recommend what they've used.

This is very true smile.gif I've used Sage payroll as well, but not for a while and found this easy to use too. Although as we all know, Sage is incredibly expensive.

Moneysoft seems to get the most votes, so must be good.

Hi, I've just downloaded 12Pay and so far so good, used QB at someone's premises and its OK but expensive when you have to upgrade all the time.

I've used moneysoft for over 10 years, and know a lot of people who switched to it from Iris, when Iris had some problems a few years ago with one of the major upgrades. Its fantastic if you intend to grow payrolls. I also know people who switched from Sage to moneysoft specifically due to costs.

I discovered moneysoft, a long time ago when I worked part-time for a large (with several offices in the UK) tax practice and they wanted all the payrolls to be done by one of the secretaries (so it needed to be easy to use for someone who know nothing about payroll or accounts), and also could be accessed on a network by any of the accountants. The secretaries would print out the payslips, employer payments and post them to the clients. We could access the records to check them or take the information to journal straight into the accounts. Moneysoft did the job and was extremely cheap too.

Moneysoft gets my vote! Started using it in January and very easy to use with some really nice features and certainly loving the CIS functions - saves a hell of a lot of time :)
