Software mis-selling
Permalink Closed

No wonder Sage do so well, I went to see a new prospective client today for payroll.  A hairdresser with 5 employees only to find that she was using Sage 50 Payroll - I asked why she did not use Instant as she had fewer than 10 employees, or even using HMRC CD-rom/download this year, which is free.  She said she used to have Instant Payroll but Sage said she would benefit more from 50 Payroll, they could do her a deal blah, blah and she fell for it.

It has made me wonder how many other very small businesses are being "conned" into buying software which has facilities they do not need by pushy salespersons and having no-one to advise them of their folly (and affect on their profits).  She also was not using the programs nominal link to her Instant Accounts for which she was paying for Sage Cover Extra (not just Sage Cover), therefore not using the software to save herself work.

There are so many naive small business owners out there being fleeced by "reputable" companies misselling their products.

Perhaps, this is another way in which bookkeepers can market their services emphasising the savings they can make for businesses.

You could try it, but it won't stop it happening.

The great pity is that it's a huge company doing this that you would think you can trust.

For a long time, I've thought Sage has a couple of good products, but as a company they are shocking.

Agree with you Nick - you would think such a big company would not need to use such tactics and that you could trust them  cry

Recommended 12Pay to a small business owner and he's very happy with 12Pay

Don't disagree with that Dalbir, I have got one of my clients to use it rather than Sage.  But for a small company with 5 employees there's really nothing wrong with the employer CD rom (now downloadable from Business Link) which is totally free.
