Should I Constantly Remind My Clients?
Permalink Closed

Hi Everyone.

I was so happy last month, I signed up 4 new clients and thought that things were looking up. But since signing them up on a monthly basis, none of them have dropped their information off for April. I have sent them email reminders and there always seems to be an excuse.

Does anyone else struglle with their clients. Is it wise to keep asking them, or should I just leave it up to them to bring them in on their own accord so as not to annoy them!

Thanks

Hi Gill,

It does happen, I suppose when they got a bookkeeper they thought that's it, they have to do nothing anymore. Human nature, once you get their records (late) they will be saying it is june already and their april reports are not ready yet...
I would keep asking them because it is your work what is going to be fallen behind and also you cannot schedule your jobs properly if they don't stick to what has been agreed.
Maybe give them a call, it is easy to come up with an excuse in email but harder on phone/in person.

Hi Gill,

Maybe you could try arranging to collect the records from them. I find this works better for me.

Hi Atitila and Tony, thanks for the replies.

It is proving difficult to manage my time at the moment. They say they're going to bring them in, so I rearrange other work, and then it doesn't appear.

I have called them. One client client had a genuine excuse, his unit was broken into and stole a lot of cash and his laptop which had all the accounts on it!. So he wanted me to leave April and start with May's. I've explained that April needs to be done, but its going to be more difficult as we need to use what evidence we have available to estimate the figures. So he is meant to be getting it all together. The others I kind of feel have changed their minds about having a bookkeeper (or should I say their wives have changed their minds as they didn't want my client to get one in the first place!). So I don't know whether the constant reminders is going against me, as I think some clients hate being pushed into doing things.

I guess I will have to wait and see. Was hoping things were changing for the better, as found work very slow over the last few months.
