Hi Everyone

Can anyone tell me wether you are able to change the password in sage 50.  I have started a new job and the girl who was there previous to me left without telling anyone her password.

Be grateful for the help

Karen

Nasty!

You've probably tried the obvious ones - her name, name of company, 'password'. Guess she left under a cloud?

If no joy, then would suggest contacting Sage, although sure someone on here will have come across this before.

NB what did your boss say?

It's probably something to do with deleting the user data file from memory. Phone Sage, they will talk you through it on the phone.

Hi Karen,

Even if you have Sagecover Sage will charge to remotely access your system and reset your password. Can't find their latest prices but I know that back in 2008 it was around £100 (+VAT)

There are lots of Sage password recovery programs out there but don't be fooled by the free trial. They give you the first two characters of the password for free and getting the rest will set you back around £60.

Just a thought, if like many you use firefox go to Tools, Options, Security then half way down the page there is a button for saved passwords. Click on that and click show passwords. It's a longshot but the likelihood is that the previous bookkeeper may have used the same password for many things so look at her saved password history and it should give you some clues as to what the Sage password is likely to be.

Don't know where the equivalent exists in internet explorer. Just had a quick glance and like most things Microsoft it's not anywhere that you would expect it to be.

If you can't get it from IE then an option would be to install Mozzila firefox then when asked about do you want to import from IE say yes and it should populate all of the saved passwords in firefox so that you can access them.

Alternatively, assuming that one cannot go downloading software onto business machines then fingers crossed one of the other peeps on here might be more IE savvy than I am if you need to know where the passwords list is under Explorer.

Hope that this helps,

Shaun.

This is totally unrelated but it involves passwords.

I never knew just how much visualising something can help you remember things. You know these things you see on tv where they are given a bunch of objects and have to memorise them. The way to do it it to invent a story and visualise things in your head that way. You'd have to have seen these types of things on tv to know what I'm talking about as that was hopeless at a description.

Last night I updated my Royal Bank app on my phone. The log in screen is different now. They keys have letters on them now (pointless as you can't key in letters). I just couldn't remember my passcode. Eventually I gave up and they're posting out a new one.

I was just having a shower there and in between singing "Maggie May" (badly) I pictured the old log-in screen in my head and lo and behold, the old number came back to me in a flash.

So much information there Peasie!

But yes, you are right, I only know my pin number if I pretend to type it into something.

 I must be psychic.

I haven't heard the song "Maggie May" in ages (apart from my own warblings in the shower) and I'm listening to Radio Scotland at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin for the Wales v Scotland football match and being played over the loudspeaker is Maggie May. Can't think why they are playing a song from 40 years ago other than the Englishman Rod Stewart supports Scotland.

Now they've got a song by the Manic Street Preachers (Welsh) - maybe Jedward will be on next.

EDIT : I wonder if that's a first - Jedward being mentioned on a bookkeeping forum.

Didn't know Rod Stewart was English.

Actually, on that subject another one that always comes as a surprise to people. Tom Jones is also English.

If he was born in Wales and grew up in Wales.....call me old fashioned, but I'd consider him Welsh.

Well, that's the last time that I listen to my eldest boy. He had me convinced that Tom was born in Gloucester.

I should have known that one was rubbish.

Now does that make him more Welsh than me as I've got pretty solid Welsh ancestry but was born in England whereas he's got English Ancestry but was born in Wales... Think it probably does considering him having God like status in the valleys.

Funny old country isn't it!
