Had a client yesterday who received an e mail for a very good export order to Oyster Tradings llc, 47 Khalid Bin Waleed Street, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The order was for the most expensive item on the web site and looked suspicious as we do not usually get orders for this quantity. Typing various details on the web it was revealed that this is a very typical hoax so we did not even reply to the order. They are trying to get your bank details when you are setting up the payment terms. BEWARE.
well spotted. this shows the importance of not only the business owner, but the bookkeeper or accountant being aware of unusual patterns within the business and being able to raise queries as required to ensure the client is...whats the word??.....ok?
Yes, I think scams of this nature are on the increase but I think with common sense and vigilence they are spotted. I do hope that not many people fall for them.
It's often quite rewarding, when you're suspicious about an onforessen email or web-based invitation, to copy a chunk of the text and put it into Google Search. Several times now I have found that this showed the same text being reported as spam or phishing by others. I do it as a matter of course whenever I'm unsure.
I don't see any confirming evidence on what you mentioned.
The business opportunity are to be verified,
I received an enquiry from the same company for existing products supplied to the same country, but didn't act on it so far. I shall be going to Dubai to verify their business worthiness. Will advice you accordingly.
From Dubai you can procure to and from anywhere in the world from Needle to Planes. As I guess the business owner you mentioned about has very low expectation.
The original poster gave the name of the company so the post will show up in any internet search making me suspicious that ALA may actually be Oyster Trading!
ALA, would you like to introduce yourself to the forum and correct any misconceptions that we may have?
kind regards,
Shaun.

Ah, but of course now I've got the power to do something about them
There's a documentation overhead associated with any amendment or deletion that I make so I won't just go changing things willy nilly.
At the moment I'm giving ALA the benefit of the doubt but just thought that it was worth adding an addendum to the note in case anyone read it and thought to question Roz's original post.
Must say, if this is a scam it's a little different to the normal ones in that generally there is a small order that gets paid for followed by a large one that doesn't.
Maybe thieves are just getting lazy!
I think that scams actually got an official name but I can't remember what it is.

Only took the title to impress the girls but as yet still no scantilly clad women banging my door down!
Apparently I can get rid of spam threads but I've not tried deleting an entire thread yet.
I can certainly delete the contents of messages and where I think that someone is being malicous, derogatory or purposefully inflamatory I will.
So far I've only changed one post which was Noola's first one about the Chair which she's been worried about for months. I didn't delete the thread but just gave the asset concerned a bit of annonymity.
My intention is to not be at all heavy handed and let the site continue to police itself. I'll just step in if someone gets completely out of hand which to my memory there have really only been a couple of those incidents since I've been on the site.
At the end of the day, with great power comes great documentation so unless it's something quite serious and it's not picked up by Steve then I'm staying pretty much hands off.

Join your forum as I did a search on Google for Oyster Trading LLC and came up with your posts. They made an enquiry for £4500 of goods so we sent them a proforma and low and behold they have paid in £46750.00 into our bank account, but not by bank transfer, by cheque into my local branch.

The company cheque is in the name of Pavilion Asset Management Ltd, who according to Companies House are in Liquidation

Just had the idiot on the phone asking for the "refund" on his overpayment, he's forwarded his bank account details to me to make the payment and is ringing back in hour to check if we have made the payment.

At least the type of scam is completely clear now.
Tempting as it may be I wouldn't stoop down to their level though.
When they phone back just tell them that you will refund the difference as soon as their cheque clears.

All the best,
