Thought I would post this here so that everyone who wants to take part (and has yet not seen it) can do.

Nice idea Jenny, the more people who respond, hopefully the more that HMRC will actually listen to us.

I imagine that a lot of people on here would like to know more about payments by their clients for things like VAT and PAYE. HMRC currently has that info, but getting it is not easy. If HMRC want to help us - and let us do more of their work for them, which is an issue which keeps coming up - then it would be really helpful if we had direct access to it.

After all, I can log onto HMRC's website and see what my client has paid for corporation tax, or income tax. Why not VAT and PAYE too?

Exactly. There is so much more information that could be seen via the online system. It would also be helpful if I could access online the people I deal with who are not part of the self assessment system, if you could see what EE records HMRC hold for people, if you could see the value of CIS vouchers that had been submitted for a client (which you currently have to request in writing). So much stuff that would make life so much easier and reduce the number of times agents have to phone them.
I notice that part of their plans are to be able to track agents who 'aren't very good', and offer them training, I think that is also a good idea also.

Ooooh very interesting. Anyone would think they'd been listening!

I wonder on what basis we will all be judged proficient, or whether they will allow all advisors to be registered and then kick them off if/when quality is not up to standard. In many ways this is going to provide a direct feedback to advisors on the quality of their work, something that only really happens now if someone complains to a regulatory body.

Thanks Jenny

For providing the link.

A statistic I found interesting was on Page 15, "On average even the smallest firms have typically around 300 clients".

I couldn't agree more, this would be so useful, plus I'd like the ability to make payments on behalf of clients through my agent log-in.

In a perfect world, I'd like to be able to appoint myself as agent when I set up a payroll scheme. I can appreciate there could be issues of confidentiality but if I can register a scheme in someone's name - why not?

It would save me having to request multiple authorisations because clients don't give me the codes in time.

I would agree with that Tony.

Dalbir, who knows where that number comes from, I would have thought the smallest firms would have around 5 clients, not 300!
