AAT or ICB

Hi,

I would like a career as a self-employed book-keeper, do I study AAT or ICB qualification.

There is an apprenticeship being advertised locally, the study will be AAT, or shall I continue with the ICB.

I am volunteering at a local hospice in there accounts department, just need some advice.

Many thank

If you can get onto an AAT apprenticeship I would take that as the experience that comes with it will be priceless and will count towards your post qualification experience requirements to set up as an MAAT MIP.

This doesn't have to be an either. or situation.

The ICB is an excellent qualification and there is no reason why you could not continue down both paths if you so desired. Train under your apprenticship for AAT and take the AAT exams but also sit the ICB exams without paying for any additional study.

AAT will open more dorrs for you into employment and that's not a door that you should close simply because you want self employment.

The real key is that someone else will be paying for your training. You will gain the experience that you need and you can still take the ICB exams and get that qualification if you want.

You win all ways around. Now quick, go snatch the hands off the person offering the AAT apprenticship!

all the best,

Shaun.
