Hi there, would appreciate some feedback regarding what tax codes you would use for Council Tax (rented properties) and Property Rates, T9 or T2 in sage. Thanks Julie
Glad Im not the only one who couldnt work that out - I even asked the Rates people and they said no VAT - yes but is it exempt or zero rated? Answer: dont know
How can the rates office not know !

I agree with Tony on this T9. However, has anyone noticed that with Water Rates the water company (at least Yorkshire Water) codes the VAT to Zero rate.

Scottish Water charge VAT on some of their water charges. It is broken down into various parts - water and waste water. A percentage of it is from the meter - but they were phasing that in over 3 years so the first year it was 33%, the next year 67% and then next year it will be 100%. Then there''s a discount to be applied. You really ought to see a Scottish Water bill. But there is definitely some VAT to pay on a Scottish Water bill.
