Joining the ICB from AAT

Hi there, I have just completed the AAT foundation course and was wondering what exemption I could get, if any, when joining the ICB. Would I have to start at level 1 or could I jump straight in at level 2? Thanks

Hello,

Well normally you would need both AAT Level 2 and AAT Level 3 and then you would be exempt from ICB Level 1 and ICB Level 2. You need both levels as the AAT and ICB don't exactly cross match eachother.

Are you planning on doing AAT Level 3? If not then you could skip the course and just take the online ICB Level 1 assessment (1 hour) which would complete your exemption from Level 1.

Then you can start your ICB at Level 2.

Thanks for the reply James. No i dont think i am going to continue with the AAT as it is a 2 nights a week course and is quite expensive.  Is the ICB Level 1 an online exam?

Could you also tell me the benefits of the new ICB Level 4? As i understand it, you can basically offer a full accounting service (if working under a practive licience that is).

I think the benefits of the ICB for me are that it is quite quick to progress through the levels where as the AAT is a long and drawn out process.  I would like to gain my practice licience and work for my self offering as many services as i am qualified to offer.

I also believe that you can take the payroll management Diploma once passing level one, is this correct? Is this also the same for the Diploma in Self Assessment?

Hi,

Yes the Level 1 is online. You need to register as a Student (£45) then the online assessment is £30.

The Level 4 allows you to offer more services whilst still being under the ICB umbrella. It may also be used a 'bridge' into ACCA/ICAEW etc in the future.

The Payroll Diploma is a qualification in its own right, so you can take that straight away. For the Self Assessement you must have the Level 2 Certificate in Manual Bookkeeping first.
