Hi,

Business registered in June 2011 but on the HMRC online services website shows "File return for 2010-11"  and "Tax year ending 05 April 2011" (See the attachement).  A bit strange... I can not remember seeing that before. Do you think it may be an error with a business start date?

Hi Aleksandra,

Unless I am mistaken, that's the message you get when someone has previously started to prepare a Return using HMRC's own software;
in this case 2010-11.

 Hi again,

I had this a few weeks ago.   It is quite easy to accidently start a return but not obvious how to delete it.

If this is what has happened you first have to continue with it.

On "Your current client" you should see "back to returns"; click that or "continue with a return" and the delete button is at the very bottom.

Hope that helps,

Tim

The fact that you've been able to start a return for the 10-11 year does suggest that HMRC would like one though.

Lol, well spotted, Budget biggrin

Aleksandra, have you had a 'Notice to File a Tax Return' for 2010-11 ?

(do they still send out paper returns?)

If you can't think of a reason why a Return for last year should be necessary, then it is worth asking HMRC if they do indeed require one.

Tim
