I am about to finish the Introduction to Accounting course (B190). I have really enjoyed studying but at times found it hard to combine my studies with my full time job and my family of 4 teenage boys. The next course doesnt start till November and I had hoped to use the coming months to do some studying so I can spread the work load.
Now my employer doesnt want me to sign up for the next course until I have the results of B190 are in. I understand this but it is going to take 2 months at least for them to come in and it really frustrates me to know I could be using this time to make my future work load a bit lighter.
I have tried buying the books off the OU website where students van sell old books but unfortunately the two sellers I approached have not replied to my email.
When I signed up for B190 I also received a PDF file of the course book and so I was hoping that perhaps someone has the books of B291 (financial accounting) and B292 management accounting on PDF and wouldnt mind forwarding them to me. It would really be a great help and be very much appreciated.
I did the forerunner to B291 / B292 which used to be called B680.
My books are not for sale and even if they were you need the accompanying CD courses for them to make any sense. However I know the contents so can advise on alternate books that will give you the head start that you are looking for.
For B291 there is a lot of repetition with things that you have already studied in B190. However there is more padding out of the detail and it's looking at taking you from bookkeeping into basic accountancy.
A list of the books for the financial accounting part of B680 (now B291)
Record Keeping Accounting in Context Financial Statements I Financial Statements II Audit Theory, Practice and Ethics Financial Analysis
A list of the books for the Management accounting part of B680 (now B292)
Accounting for Costs Budgeting Management Accounting in practice Quantitative Methods Decision making
There were another 5 books in B680 for which there is now no equivalent in B291 or B292.
To cover all the material in B291 buy :
AAT level 4 Financial Statements combined text and workbook (There's a version here that you can look inside : http://www.amazon.co.uk/Financial-Statements-Combined-Workbook-accounting/dp/0857322206/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1310737312&sr=1-1)
For management accounting try :
Management and Cost accounting - Colin Drury (there's a version here that you can look inside : http://www.amazon.co.uk/Management-Cost-Accounting-Colin-Drury/dp/1844805662/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1310737205&sr=8-1)
The advantage of doing it this way is that you will have a deeper understanding of the subject matter than just using the OU materials.
Good luck with the courses and hope that the avove books help.
kind regards,
Shaun.

I did certificate in Accounting with Open University in 2009 and succesfully finished with merit. The books were very helpful as you could study from home and no tutor was needed. Really. I keep all 16 books, if you're still interested please let me know.
