Fellow Students?
Permalink Closed

Hi Everyone, I'm from South Africa and currently studying ICB Diploma, Technical Financial Accountant up to NQF 6.

At the moment I'm busy with Bookkeeping to Trial Balance and wondered if there's anyone here doing the same? I'm sitting my exam in August for the above.

Then I did Business Literacy exam in May and received my results from the ICB, but there's no percentages on it, why don't they give that? I so wanted to know how I did and not just wanted to know that I passed...

Hi Jessica

Welcome to the forum

Not sure if you are aware but this is predominantly a UK forum but all are welcome.

My understanding is that the ICB you are a member of has no affiliation with the UK ICB or ICB Global (James will probably confirm that on Monday), so i do not think anyone will be able to answer that.

It may be worth you contacting your ICB, as they may be able to give you feed back on your actual results.

While we will not be aware of specific bookkeeping and accounting regulations in SA, the basics of accountancy are pretty universal, so if ever you have a query on that area, I am sure someone will be able to help.

Bill

Yes as on the other posts - ICB SA is IAB in the UK.

You'll have to ask ICB SA about the how they do the results. But as Bill says basic accounting or bookkeeping is pretty universal.

Thanks guys, I'll keep that in mind. Tell me something now, will my ICB SA qualification be any good in the UK then? And what are the differences between ICB UK and IAB UK?

ICB - Institute of Certified Bookkeeper
IAB - ??? Institute of ???

Sorry for all the questions, but I'm trying to understand the differences

Edit: Jessica, YLB-HO (Frauke) may be able to answer that one but I suspect taht you may get some exemptions to joining the IAB, as they are the same body

Morning Bill, (oops, afternoon now),

I think that one was about the shortest answer that I've given this year. Not like me at all to use 3 words when I could use 300!

Sorry for delayed reply. Was just over on Linkedin seeing what other groups I wanted to be a member of (as they show on your profile).

I notice that there isn't a BKN accross there yet. Seems a bit of free advertising for this sites being missed there.

I don't know the specifics, so you will have to check with the ICB SA, but I do know the exams you take are the same exams the IAB students take in the UK which is why they qualify for points for UK immigration purposes.

But in the UK our educational system has changed so many times, in the last 20 years that the majority of employers just don't understand any of it!
