Time I introduced my self!
Permalink Closed

I live in West Dorset, a rural area. I have recently been made redundant and now have a part-time job in office admin (including all the invoicing). I intend to start my own book-keeping business to take me to retirement and beyond. I have worked on the fringes of accounts, invoicing and purchasing and done some accounting courses in the past. I have taken B190 with the Open University and am waiting for the result. Rather than join the IAB I decided that the ICB was better for me as I can take exams locally. I have taken Level 1 and passed with a good result and now hope to take both Level 2 exams in the next 6 weeks. Then I can start my business and hope to get some clients, by Christmas would be nice but expect it to take some time. I can use the time to take more courses and exams.

Thank you to all on this forum, especially Shaun, because without you I wouldnt have thought of self-study, which suits me very well, and I am grateful for the book recommendations. Having read all your software posts, I have bought Sage Instant Accounts to take the level 2 computerised exam, at least I will then know how to use it, if a clients already has it. I will decide later if I need another package other than Excel, which I know fairly well.

Really enjoying all the topics that come up in the forum, they are a great help in understanding the complexities of the real world. Thank you for all your posts, Sylvia

Hi Sylvia,

welcome to our merry little group and really glad that the advice has proven helpful to you (and saved you a bob or two).

After B190 you will have no major problems getting to AICB so that practice licence is getting pretty close.

kind regards,

Shaun.

My Mum is very well, thank you! When I was a child the song that used to get sung to me was "Who is Sylvia, What is she", so yes I am old enough!

Thank you for all your kind welcomes.

Best wishes Sylvia

Ooh, I'll name that song in one...

Sylvia's Mother by Dr. Hook.

Geez, that takes me back a bit.

Hated that sort of music (I was always more Skynrd, Floyd, Yes, early Genesis, Led Zep, etc) but you always had to pretend to like stuff like Dr Hook and Hot Chocolate to get the girls.
