Good evening all,

I can't believe it's all happened so quickly, but in the space of around 2 weeks, I have gone from deciding this is what I want to do with my life, to reading literally any online guidance I could find.... to being on the verge of being IAB qualified.

I have filled out all the application forms after learning that I can qualify through experience... and (assuming all goes well) I should have the letters MIAB after my name shortly. I know the main qualification in this field is AAT, and I've contacted them about exemptions. I plan to study for level 3 (or possibly level 4, depending on what exemptions I qualify for) AAT while doing book-keeping, because, as they say - "You can never be too qualified".

I have purchased Sage, and have my first, and second client. I am waiting for my IAB membership to be confirmed before making and distributing business cards... I have talked to accountants, and a few local business owners and have people who are "interested".

I feel like I'm ready to start proactively (I hate that word smile) seeking more clients and getting my fledgling (MUCH better word) business off the ground.

....Have I overlooked anything obvious? Or is there anything else anyone would suggest I do?

As always, your guidance is most appreciated.

Thanks,

Rich

Yes Rich, before you take on clients you need your certificate of compliance from IAB for MLR, you apply for this after you have been accepted as a member and it costs, I think £78.50, Frauke will know!!! Once you've filled out the application forms for IAB you have to wait till they have a committee meeting to accept you, I think (and again Frauke will be able to help on this) they are held at the end of each month.

I could be wrong (I'll look into it further), but I believe that upon gaining the IAB membership, they contact HMRC and deal with the AML laws on my behalf.

...End of every month huh? - Just my luck I posted everything off on the 2nd of the month smile. Guess I will just sit tight and wait for confirmation of that to come through. In the meantime, I have the AAT side to be getting on with.

Hi Rich,

No you need to contact IAB and get a Certificate of Compliance along with MLR supervision from them.

If you register with the IAB for MLR then you don't need supervision from HMRC.

Good luck with your business!
