I have just been granted AIAB membership, waiting for my level 3 diploma in computerised bookkeeping and payroll exam result to come out 1st sept 2011. I want to start practising. I have printed postcards and business cards, and have just started sharing them. i am very worried, i may not get clients as soon a i need them.
i was just wondering if their is a possibilty of me getting contract works. i do finanial year account very well, is just that i have to wait for my results and upgard from IAB membership . i will also like to know, what i should/ not do.
i will be very grateful if you give me some advice please.
thank kirs, i have just registered with Iab, they sent MLR, i think is for money laundering. well, i kept that till i am able to get a client then can pay for it. Is it ok? just struggling with my three under five years kids.
thanks Guru, i just sent the application today, have to do the right thing. Kris, you asked weather i have contacted local accountants, no. What do i tell them, they are looking for works just like me. please i do not know what to tell them?
But be careful of gifts of white elephants! (see #1 below)
All accountants have the odd client or two that are more trouble than they are worth. Getting rid of them to a start up bookkeeper will mean you have real difficulty turning a profit from them but dumping them for 11 months of the year will be a mighty relief for the accountant to get them out of their hair until year end.
Only advantage to these is that if you just grit your teeth and make a success of them then accountants are likely to throw you something a little more profitable in the future.
Shaun.
#1 : White Elephants : All white elephants in Thailand belong to the king and are not allowed to be worked. If the king doesn't like someone he gives them a gift of a white elephant as it must be treated as royalty which costs a fortune and you can make absolutely no return on it.
P.S. you keep refering to Sheila (semsley) as Guru which is a title rather than a name.

Thanks Semsley, you have a good heart. Well, I have made calls to the local accountants, i am so disappointed, most of them have in bookkeepers, and others do not think they will need bookkeeper. I never really thought that getting a client will be this difficults. i have gone round to share cards, calls, adverts and many more. i feel so bad. is this the same way you all started, or is my different.

From personal experience, I would say that it is par for the course
Getting the first few clients is the hardest of all bookkeeping tasks
