I am in a very confused state regarding which provider to use and the route to take, Ill tell my back story so someone somewhere might help me..
I am stuck in a dead end job at the moment, I have qualifications up to foundation degree level in metallurgy, so i can handle the studying aspect. I have to travel 70 miles to work and 70 miles back home a day. An before you ask, no its not great money at all just under 19,000 a year (3 shift pattern).
So my questions are... I am wanting and have got my heart set on doing the AAT course 2 through 4 (after a long discussion with a charted accountant friend), my only option is to do the distance learning.
Which provider would people in the know recommend, i have narrowed it down to premier training and eagle education..?
An when would be a good time to start applying for jobs..?
Please any help would be greatly appreciated and taken in..
Premier always get a good write up on the site and having spoken with them myself I found them to be very professional and not at all pushy.
Before you go down that path though do you want to chat through in a little more depth what you actually want from this? Is it employment or self employment?
For self employment you may be better looking at the ICB or IAB routes (neither of which actually require a training provider although some work best with one).
For Employment you may hit the experience catch 22 in that you can't get the required on the job training without the qualification and you can't get the qualification (or at least not MICB status) without the training.
As you have an accountant freind, are they willing to take you on for a year to get your experience requirement?
Whichever route that you choose I hope that you enjoy your studies,
kind regards,
Shaun.

I am looking to gain employment from these studies, and hopefully in the years ahead go self employed. As i am 25 with a young daughter so employment seems the safest (for lack of a better word) route.
The catch 22 situation is my biggest concern, but as i look at it and keep looking at it, this may be a rsik i have to take. I have been told that once i gain the relevant qualifications i can offer to do book-keeping for charities and such. Could this be usable experience for future employers..?
My friend got to the level he is at now, through him work paying for and allowing him to gain the qualifications.I would ask that of him once i reach a stage that im an asset rather than a hinderence..
I hope i do too, i do love to learn regardless of the subject. A wise man once said "knowledge is power"............. But on the other hand another one said " dont pee into the wind" so im just not sure haha..
