Hi Georgie, you're not the only one. Learning three at once is a big ask if you're on a deadline. Andica has been mentioned favourably recently.
best wishes.

Hi Tim, yes I had a look at that but not sure you can import from VT though. Is that important?
Kind regards
Georgie

Hi Georgie, thats one of the things I had trouble with. I've not used Andica, so hopefully someone else will comment.

No, importing is not essential if you know what you want in the Tax Return.

How are you finding, VT and Moneysoft Payroll?

best wishes
Tim

Hi Tim, sorry I didn't reply sooner I forgot my password, a sure sign I have brain overload! Think I am trying to learn to much too soon..... I was trained on Sage and Iris and have used them for quite a while so not sure if I am biased. I think VT is OK and will use that as Sage is sooo expensive. Not sure about moneysoft. Thing is, if or when I get a client and they want me to do their payroll am I going to start with a new software package or go with what I know? Payroll is done to a time frame and don't think I will be able to handle the stress, so might start out with Iris and as I get more confidence and get busier I may switch to Moneysoft.

Think with Sage and Iris I have been spoiled with their support. They have never let me down and especially when I had just qualified they took the time to explain things to me. If all software was the same price I would stick with what I know. But as we all know startup costs and running a business don't come cheap.

Best wishes

Georgie

Hi Georgie,

If money is an issue, I would suggest starting out with what you've mentioned. I started using spreadsheets for accounts, and thought VT was great when I found it. I used Sage for payroll for a couple of years, then found Moneysoft and it made my life so much easier (and cheaper). For tax returns, I used PTP which was relatively straight forward and could be increased as I got bigger.

Good luck.

Hi Georgie, if it's any consolation, there isn't a learning curve with Moneysoft Payroll. Like Nick, I changed from Sage and back then, 2004, I found it cost 1/3, did three times as much and was easy as wink to use. The other recommendation for payroll is www.12pay.co.uk which is free at the bottom end.

Don't blame you with staying with what you know and none of us function at our best when under stress. I did struggle with that tax program and ditched it in the end, so wouldn't want anyone to reinvent my wasted time. I've changed from Drummhor to Taxcalc this year and am ok with SA but battling with CT (iXBRL and all that). Their helpline is very good though, so I'll get there in the end.

Just take one step at a time and best of luck with your new venture.
Tim

Afternoon Bill,

Sorry, not on here quite as much as I was (although still on for at least a couple of hours everyday).

I've made the call that when I'm in the office I don't have the site on at all as I know that if I do I'll get sucked in for five or six hours a day!

clever approach by Jerry on this one where he cut and pasted other peoples posts in order to look as though he knows something about the subject matter. (which for all I know, he might).

For now I've left the posts with the advertising removed.

I've banned the userid and IP address but this one is persistent and keeps coming back to this site with new userids from different computers so I know that I'll be banning him again within the next few days!

Not long and you'll be able to do these as well (if you choose to). There's a bit of admin work to do around it where you have to report who you've banned, why and exactly what you've removed or changed. It's all in order to keep site admins PII sweet.

Anyway, talk later matey,

Shaun.
