VAT Quarterly return dates
Permalink Closed

Good morning everyone!

I have recently acquired a new client and they are behind with their VAT returns.  I am starting on their accounts from the date the business started but I'm a bit confused over when their VAT retur dates should be.

The company incorporation date is 6th November 2009 but their account has set their financial year to run from February 2010 to February 2011.

Could someone please tell me what date their first VAT quarter would be?

Many thanks

Kelly

Hi Kelly

It should be printed on the companies Vat certificate or at least they'll have received a letter confirming the return dates when they registered. The other way to find out, is to register the client to submit Vat on-line and all the outstanding returns will be shown under "Submit A Return".

Hi Kelly,

It could be any date. There is not necessarily any relationship between (a) when a company is incorporated, (b) when it's financial year is, or (c) when it's VAT quarter dates are.

They should have copies of uncompleted VAT returns, or at least estimates, both of which should include a VAT return date.

Failing that, it may be useful to get the client to ring the VAT office and ask them which returns are outstanding.

Thanks for your replies.

I have asked the client to check his paperwork.

Thanks very much.
