If someone is working on a 'self-employed' basis ie raising invoices for the company they work for but only working say 4 hours a week at £10 per hour - do they still have to register with HMRC as self-employed?
Thanks for your replies - I have looked at the HMRC website - she fulfills all the criteria of being employed -but as she is rasing invoices for her services - this will mean that she will have to register with HMRC and pay Class 2 NI contributions? Is this right??!!
If she fulfills all the criteria of being employed....surely she should be employed?
That aside....she won't necessarily have to pay Class 2 NI contributions....if her earnings are going to be low (under £5315 pa for this tax year) she can apply for low earnings exemption.
Hi peeps, I forget though, are Class 2 contributions counted for pension and benefits entitlement? Might be worth considering if less than 30 years contributions Tim
