Why did you choose your Avatar?

Just thought i'd ask for a bit of fun, actually i was squinting trying to suss out what Don Tax's (Tim)  avatar was all about. If anyone would like to share their reasonings or stories behind their avatars and forum names i'm sure it would make fun reading.

Thanks

Neil.

Some of us have had more than one avatar in the past couple of years, usually based on a theme. It does make reading some old post interesting when they refer to long departed avatars smile

As for me, I actuall wanted TC sidekick Benny but couldn't find a decent clip, so settled for TC, as the theme was 'toons.

I kept Miss Ellie from the Dallas theme because I like the picture and I'm around that age group.

I remember living with my Nan for a while and Dallas was on (so it seemed at the time) all the time. I was a bit too young to be interested in it but i'm glad there weren't as many channels as there are now showing repeats or else i'd have upped and shot J.R. myself.

Presumably you'd then have woken up and realised it was all just a dream...

Edit: My Avatar is just my logo. Not very exciting I'm afraid!

The avatar is my wife.
The user name is nickname I've had since 1986 - it's the same nickname as one of the opponents of my local football team that year.

I just had to think of a screen name and used an amalgam of two email addresses.   This also made a nice play on the phrase Dont Tax.

The cartoon is just one I found on the net at the time and anticipating your squinting, I gave the caption in my signature lol.

I loved the character of Don Quixote as played by Peter O'Toole in the musical film.  Never read the books, but tilting at windmills is a regular experience with bureacracy.

Ooh, nostalgia time.

As Bill says they generally run with themes. My first one, fat cat was because I come from banking.

Next one, Rodger from American Dad is already in the pipeline (maybe) as you'll see below.

The worst day for the Avatars was when Amanda moved on from Lucy Ewing to Betty Boo. Real black tie day that one.

My user name is just the nickname that I've almost always been known as...

Mine is really obvious.

Might change it to something more personal as I am the only one from ICB staff who uses this site. Orginally I wanted others to get involved, but the powers that be don't follow my enthusiasm.

If I did personalise it, I would probably use something from the Simpsons, or 30 Rock.

I don't have one. I was banned a while back for being a naughty boy, and since I've rejoined I never got round to putting one up.

I was kjmcculloch before, but when I returned had to add the year of my birth at the end. Quite boring really its just my name k is for Kris and j is for John, although when it shows as a link it looks like kim and many many people have called me that over the years.

I lack imagination.

God glad I changed from Lucy Ewing, she doesn't look like she did all those years ago!
I stick to Betty for now.

Mine you saw the original Daisy Duke on Graham Norton show some time ago and she had really aged and had put on lots of weight!  Of course the 2 duke boys still looked nice though even though they had aged.

I chose mine because everyone on here seemed to have a cartoon avatar (there were a few Dallas avatars which was slightly disturbing), plus my piccy is on the website, twitter, facebook, etc.. and I didn't want to use the logo again! I used to work in an engineering environment for a large company and see a lot of that (politics, apathy, etc..) in Dilbert, so it seemed apt.

Dilbert - good choice (I love the Dilbert cartoons).
I've just uploaded a cartoon one, for now... (my real pic is on my twitter, too, but I haven't been as brave as Nick has, in putting it on my website or FB page - may be one day...biggrin)

Hi Louise,

who is the cartoon character? Any story behind why you chose that one?

I put my picture on my website.  It was there for a whole 2 days until one of my friends told me al capone had been on the phone wanting his suit back.  The photo came off, and that was that.

I don't normally wear suits with ties either, I got a few shirts made with my logo when I started and I tend to wear them, open neck.

Kris

@Shaun, it's Princess from "Battle of the Planets" - an old favourite from too long ago :)

@Kris, I can sympathise - I did have my photo on my blog, which I hastily reconsidered after one of my clients dissolved in fits of laughter after having seen said photo biggrin

Yeah it was keyop....

I was looking for a decent pic of Marine Boy, anyone remember that cartoon?

Edit:

Maybe I'll use Dr Doom, since that's how most clients view me because of all the stat. deadlines.

Yes, I remember Marine Boy - I always wished I had some 'Oxy-gum' so I could breath underwater like him on bath nights.

What, you don't have a bath night anymore!...

Greast memories. I had airfix models of the Bismark and the Hood which weren't quite as watertight as they should be so invariably ended up as submarines.... Actually pretty close to real life then.

Three episodes last night on BBC3.
Slightly worrying that three of my favourite characters in cartoons have drink problems - Homer (Simpsons), Roger (American Dad) & Brian (Family Guy). Come to think of it you could add Bender (Futurama) to that list as well.
