Work from accountants

Do any of you out there take on work from accountants?  Can you give me any advice.  Eg Terms, MLR.  If the accountants are not known eg other side of the country, how do you check them out etc etc.  Do you have a template to fill in/letter of engagement for accountants.  Sorry so many questions.

I do quite a bit for a local chartered accountant, when I spoke to the ICB regarding MLR, I was advised to get a letter from him confirming he was a member of a supervised body, a list of his clients I'd done the bookkeeping for and confirmation I could rely on his due diligence.

Cant help with the rest sorry.

Hi,

ACCA, AAT, CIMA, ICAS and ICAEW all have online directories of members so you can quite easily confirm who the companies say that they are. (not sure about IFA? Frauke maybe able to confirm that one).

Unfortunately the accountants that I deal with are close freinds so I don't actually have an engagement letter as such for use with accountants yet (my general clients one wouldn't be suitable) so can't help with that bit.

Kind regards,

Shaun.

I do work for an accountant. They drew up their own contract for me rather than me doing a letter of engagement, and they pass me on their clients paperwork. They are registered with a governing body so any work I undertake for them is covered, although it does specify I need my own PII (which I have). I have had to register under MLR with HMRC but thats for any private work I get that is not through them. I am, in effect, a sub-contractor for them.
