Sage Restore Error Opening File
Permalink Closed

Hi Folks,

I use Sage Instant Accounts v.10. I work from home and my laptop has just packed up.

I have installed the same version of Sage onto another laptop, freshly built running Windows XP operating system. After completing the startup wizard and re-registering my product I have gone for FILE - RESTORE and attempted to restore to my most recent backup. After a few seconds I get the following message "Error opening file c:\program files\sage\accounts\archives\accdata\1.coa" followed by a restore was unsuccessful message. I have tried restoring earlier backups but none of them work. I can't find anything in the Sage manual or help files. Any help would be much appreciated.

Is it the drive (ie C:) that is wrong. If you are restoring onto a new laptop the backup will not be on the hard drive as it is on the hard drive of the broken laptop. Maybe.......!!?

Hi there,

In which directory/folder have you installed the programme on your new laptop?  And where are you trying to restore your backup from, from a usb stick?

As the other replies, not sure where you saved back-up etc, but the file extension of Sage back-up files should be .001 - shouldn't it???

If you saved the file onto a usb, then do a search for files with this extension and try restoring this.

Was the backup that was originally taken an all files backup? Judging by the path in the error message I believe it may have been as you appear to be encountering an error sage were aware of in v10. This can be rectified by installing Service Pack 1 for v10 from www.sage.co.uk/accountsupdates. Please navigate to this site, then choose Line 50 then choose version 10.

Once you have installed the update, please try to restore the backup again.
