I have set previously manual accounts up on Sage going back to the beginning of the financial year.
I now have to do the current VAT return, not having used Sage to do the previous one. Will it be correct because the correct dates for the quarter are used to calculate the current return?
I'm just worried that because the previous one wasn't completed on Sage (or hasn't been so far) & reconciled etc that it may affect the figures.
When you input the dates that you want to report on, the system will pop up a warning that there are unreconciled VAT transactions from before those dates and will ask if you want to include those transactions or not. Just click no to that and the return you see will be based only on transactions with dates as selected.
To keep things tidy though, I'd recommend running and reconciling the previous VAT returns at some point as otherwise you may miss transactions that genuinely should be included in the current return.
I would run the previous VAT Returns on Sage BEFORE running the current Return. You can then check those against the manually prepared Returns. You can make adjustments (subject to the usual rules) on the current Return.
When running the current Return, you will also need to check that entries on not also included on the previous Returns which have been manually prepared.
