I am only 17 years old and at the moment i am studying AAT level 2 and 3 till June. I left half way through sixth form as i felt that it really wasnt suited to me, at AS level i got 4 D's :( So i decided to do the AAT level 2 and 3 at college in one year. Im really enjoying it so far but i am anxious about what will be available to me when i leave college. I am going to try and look for a job that will allow me to still study level 4 part time.
(I also have Maths A GCSE and B's in English, aswell as other GCSEs...)
Do u think that i will be able to find a job that would take me on with the qualifications i have? And also do u think that I should apply to university to prove myself academically to employers who would look down at my pretty poor AS level grades :/
It's very competitive out there at the moment with a lot of people trying for apprenticships rather than University.
For the first time the big four are taking people on straight from school rather than from the milk run post Uni. However, they're expecting first class straight A's accross the board (preferably in the English Baccalaureate subjects) to go into a big four via that route.
As your already putting yourself through AAT that shows commitment to potential employers which really is what they're looking for rather than people who believe that they are owed a living without putting the effort in so well done for taking that first step.
Your the right age for employers to get financial support from the Government for training you which puts you in a strong position for finding a position but you need to be quick.
In the absence of a suitable role it would not hurt to apply to Uni as getting a good quality degree pretty much negates everything that came before.
Good luck with your search. Appreciate fully that this must be a worrying time as no matter what decision you make it closes off other options for you.
All the best,
Shaun.
