As part of our relaunch of offering web services I have decided to offer 10 free websites to members here who don't have one already.

It will include:

  • A homepage
  • About Me
  • Services

We have various different modules you can choose to have on your homepage including:

  • News
  • Opening Hours
  • Contact Details
  • Newsletter form

You can choose from the following colour schemes:

  • Light Blue
  • Navy Blue
  • Red
  • Green
  • Orange

We will include hosting and a sub domain name, that will be yourname.book-keeper.org.uk

An example site can be seen at jeff.book-keeper.org.uk

If this wasn't from your userid Kris I would have said that it was Spam.

Can you confirm Kris that your userid has not been hacked, that this is legitimate and the reason why you're offering web hosting.

Sure this is all legit and sorry to sound so synical but it's just the world that we live in!

Absolutely Shaun. My account has not been hacked.

This is perfectly legitimate. You know how many times I designed and redesigned my site before I was happy with it. Today, I found some of the old designs and given that these have already been created and are just sitting on my computer doing noting I thought I'd offer my fellow bookkeepers a chance to get a website for no cost to them.

I have the domain name doing nothing, and because I already host a number of sites I had to buy a big hosting package and so have spare capacity.

I know the BKN offer websites, but these are paid for and not everyone starting out can afford it. We have posted about other hosting and web design, including google so I hope you realise this is no different. I'm not trying to flog anyone anything. The only difference is that I have the designs and will make the appropriate changes, rather than people needing to fiddle about with some site builder and never get it quite right.

If you feel this isn't appropriate I am happy to withdraw my offer on your say so, but it's really no different to the piles of forms and new client packs I've given away in the past.

no probs.

providing it was you posting I'm happy not to intervene and hope that you help a few people get online with your offer.

Glad you appreciated why I felt that I needed to ask.

There have been quite a few first time posters on here posting website services and helping get people up the Google search list. Obviously no other link to accountancy or bookkeeping so mostly people don't even notice that they've ever existed on the site unless the clever little soles try it whilst I'm in the office.

best of luck with the new service even though it's not actually an income stream as such in this instance.

Not a problem Shaun, you make a good point about the SEO folk. I think I get at least 1 phonecall and 1 email from an SEO company each day. It usually starts with "we see you're not featuring on google, we can get you to number 1" and ends when I ask where they are in the rankings.

There is no costs at all for the standard service above including the sub domain of yourname.book-keeper.org.uk. If you want to have a top level domain name you can either buy one and we can redirect it for you, or we can get it on your behalf for a cost of around £7-15 depending on the one you want.

Hosting is free. All you need to do is drop me an email with a bit about your business, contact details, and the services you offer. I'll put it all together and show you the results for each colour and you can choose which you prefer.

 My stock answer is to ask them how they found me and what they think my key search terms are (usually accountants wiltshire or accountants devizes). I then ask them to search and they either say sorry for bothering or hang the phone up!
