Here's a tricky one - I have to enter new employee details on Sage for a director or Ltd Co. She has given me to P45's one for employment that ended April and then for Jobseekers Allowance she received til July when she started Ltd Co. I'm not sure if the P45 from Jobseekers Allowance counts as income to enter for year to date values??
Hi, the P45 is just in date - 8th April! So include both in year to date values for 2011-2012? And when you enter 'previous employment ended - use P45 from Jobseekers as previous employment?
I think in this instance, I would use the latest (JSA) P45, as normal, and send a letter to your tax office, giving details from earlier one, so they check and can make any adjustments.
Normally the P45 from JSA would include the previous employment but i would guess that she didn't hand it in when she signed on.
Just to confirm what I have said, I have found this on HMRC wesite, from a Q&A section
Q. My employee has brought me two P45s - which should I use?
A. If your new employee gives you two P45s you should use the latest P45 (Part 3) or, if the Part 3s show similar dates, use the P45 (Part 3) which shows the highest earnings and/or code. If in doubt contact your PAYE tax office for specific advice.
