I would just like to take this opportunity to ask you all for five minutes of your time. As you all know we are headed into a bright new year, and hopefully a dynamic and prosperous future. I would like to remind you all that we sometimes forget the little ones as we march forward, and ask for you to take the time to consider them. I am not going to ask you to dig deep inside your pockets, i'm not asking for donations of old clothing or toys but i will ask of you one thing. If any of you have any spare jobs, or know of anybody who has an abundance of these things just lying around, maybe festering away, please get in touch. For every job that is donated to the Neil Appeal you will receive your very own set of photographs, a monthly pamphlet letting you know how Neil is doing and your very own access to the Neil Appeal email address. Good ol Neil he never lets us down with his amusing threads, I will come up with something funny Neil (have faith) although I have to say I couldnt get to grips with the Esther Rantzen, Morgan Freeman and Darth Vader voices, I kept saying Sausages and use the force Luke, no my friend your post should be read in only one voice, yes the voice of the Rev Ian Paisley, try it and see lol.
Yuk, I hate all those appeals done by "celebrities" and the children in need/comic relief cameos where they are visiting "projects" to "help" and to extort money from us. Instead of their jollies doing this these "celebrities" should be digging in their own very deep pockets and sharing some of their wealth. My particular betes noire are Geldorf and Bono if instead of squirreling away their money in tax havens they gave what they are asking us lesser being to give I would have more respect for them. I prefer people who give their time and money anonymously for those less fortunate - take for example the late great Jimmy Saville who it transpires gave a percentage of his income to charity as well as what was common knowledge (at least among us Tykes) his regular volunteering at LGI as a porter.
@ Sheila, I liked Jimmy Saville, he was a true celebrity unlike these sports people (we all know the ones I mean) who do sweet *%#* all for their money!
He always used to run the marathons for charity and always was in a tracksuit whenever he was on tv, he was great. I have fond memories of Jim'll fix it!

I never knew he also worked there as a porter.
He was a lovely person, would always stop and talk to anyone and I never knew till it was in the Yorkshire Post after he died about him donating 9/10th of his income to charity. He raised £45m from his marathons etc and in addition he set up two charities the Jimmy Saville Charitable Trust which contained £3.5m and the Stoke Mandeville Hospital Trust (where he also worked) which contained £1.5m at the time of his death.
I used to love Jim'll Fix It, I noticed in the Christmas telly mag that Shane Ritchie was doing a Jim'll Fix It special for Christmas but i just couldn't bring myself to watch it. Sometimes memories are best left unspoiled.
