My client is a Self-Employed DJ for a radio station.
He has no car and travels to work by public transport.
Although he has one central place of work (the radio station), he is, as a journalist, out and about at various venues throughout the week, again using public transport. He may not go into the radio station every day, but go straight to a venue from home.
Is it just the travel to the venues that can he claim as a legitimate expense?
Basically if the radio station is his office then he cannot claim the travel, as it is classed as a commute. The other travel expenses would be allowed.
If his office is at home, and his visits to the station as and when he needs to, then I would say they are allowable.
My client is a Sports Journalist for the radio station. He reports on football matches and sporting events, but he also has a regular programme on a weekday.
As a Sports journalist would he be able to claim for his Sky Sports TV package, as he has to keep on top of the news of what is going on in the sporting world?
don't know about Sky but regarding the intertnet, I would apportion it out so some of it is business and some of it is personal, as I expect he surfs the net for his holidays!
I'm with Amanda. Look at a fair proportional split of the Sky package.
If the radio station is deemed to be his office, you could just claim the standard use of home allowance of £3/ week, to cover minor household expenses but I guess if he's watching hours of sport, then it might be worth looking into specific expenses, proportion of electric, TV licence, rates etc
