Sad to say I have been working this A.M.

The client accounts I have just finished, was my very first client, so she is getting more work done than she pays for (my fault - bad at quoting the right price in the early days). To make matters worse, she is the most dis-organised of all my clients, never has anything ready when I call round, paperwork in three or four carrier bags because she starts one, then starts another, so I usually find that illusive invoice from several months ago mixed in with current stuff. She also like to use the business account for personal buys as well. Still, can't help feeling a bit attached, as she was the one that got the ball rolling smile

Back to the banjo this arvo.

Still no snow, +6 C, bit damp

Best way to tune a banjo? With wire cutters

Good luck with it. To be honest I could do with losing about a stone. I am closer to your target weight but am not particularly tall.

I blame the bookkeeping. Since I started doing this, I spend more time sitting down than I ever did before. Gave up smoking about four years ago, which hasn't helped either.

Not sure how I am going to erase the naked Peasie image from my head now though. shocked.gif

Edit: Found a way biggrin

Five string open back is used more for folk/ traditional/ music hall type music.

Five string resonator is a loud instrument (my weapon of choice - no amp required smile) More commonly played in Bluegrass best played with finger picks. Open backs tend to be more mellow, resonator are very bright. I would say resonator is the way to go, as you can play all styles on it.

There are many other hybrid versions, 4 string tenor, same tuning as violin/ mandolin. Banjele (baby uke banjo) Banjolin (eight string mandolin tuning), banguitar (six stringed in guitar tuning -  I seem to remember Peasie has one)

Want see what an eight year can do with a resonator

Nice lady playing open back

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_1DQi_P9MI

Edit: Forgot  to add there are different styles of playing banjo. I like picking but if you prefer rythm type playng, there is a style called claw hammer, which is more of a strumming technique.

May have spotted a link between weight and diet biggrin

Aha! Afternoon everyone - hope you're managing to get a day off and not sitting reading the forum... like I am :S So far I've had a very lazy lay in. But have to actually get moving to the tip so I can empty my car ready for Monday. It's chocka with stuff that "might be useful one day" - foot put down. It's going. Then to the shops quickly and that should be that. Who else? Anything as amazing as my plans for the day? :)

You'll be kicking yourself in a months time when something breaks down and you think to yourself - "I could have used ========= to repair it, why did I take it to the tip"

A very long lie in for me - didn't even get up in the morning. I think it was 12:55pm before I dragged myself out of bed. It's warm in there.

Time to whip all the clothes off and weigh myself. Since January I've gone from "severely obese" to "obese". My target is a "slightly overweight" 14½ stone. Anything under that weight and I'll look unhealthy. I remember looking at my weight loss and at one point noticed I'd lost 5½kgs. I just happened to have an unopened 5kg bag of sugar and picked that up. It made me realise I was dragging that about with me all day every day for no reason. In fact, I've another four of these 5kg bags to get rid of just to be slightly overweight.

The problem started 4 and a bit years  ago when I passed my driving test. It meant I wasn't cycling anymore. Which brings me to the present day when I have a spreadsheet set up with all the relevent formulas in.....how many calories someone my age, height and weight should burn in a day.

= 66 + (6.23 x weight in pounds) + (12.7 x height in inches) - (6.8 x age in years) x 1.375 (for an activity level of 2)

I then add up all the calories I eat in a day. The spreadsheet keeps on expanding as I add more things to it. Each day is a new tab. I'll enter my weight in pounds and then have it converted into kgs and stones/pounds (which is a pain as I can't figure out a way to do it that doesn't involve a few extra cells).

I can't lie in for the life of me. I used to envy my mates when we'd been out of a Saturday night and got steaming and they stayed in bed and slept it off, meanwhile i would be up at the usual 5-6 am with a stinking head, most often still quite tipsy. The good thing about getting older is aquiring common sense lol.

I think the worst one I've done was in my youth had been on a weekend bender. Started on the Friday night and all day Saturday. Resumed early on the Sunday morning. At the time up here north of the border most of the pubs shut at 2:30pm until 6pm. I'd gone home out my face at 2:30pm. Woke up at 8pm thinking it was the next morning so got ready for work and started cycling to work. I passed by pubs and couldn't figure out why people were walking in and out of them. Also - why was it dark? Then it dawned on me. So I cycled home and then headed off to the pub again.

I've no idea how I survived beyond 19 years of age. Now if I have even just a few pints on a Saturday I still feel rough unti the Monday evening.

It's apple.  It'll only upload to a special apple site, for apple users or you'll need to buy a special app that only apple sell to see it.

My rant on apple.  No one I know would pay twice the price for an average car if they were told they could only use it on certain roads or fuel it with special fuel that only the car maker sold and it was twice the price of other fuels.  But make a phone the same way....

Ok, better now.

well, nobody ever accused me of being subtle! biggrin

Hi Kris,

So if we scan your new Avatar does it come back with your old picture of Homer?

My phones a trusty old Samsung D900 which I've had for about five years now so it wouldn't know what to make of these new block icons.

Wonder how many people do actually scan these things? Sure it's not just me whose a dinosaur when it comes to mobile technology.

All the best,

Shaun.

Takes you to his bookkeeping resource website. Well, it takes you to a page that tells you about the bookkeeping resource website. I wonder what the future of these little boxes? Are they to become more advanced or are they going to be limited?

EDIT : I like Dave Gorman's - it has a picture of his face in the middle of it. (on his twitter avatar).

Or die a horrible lonely demise through lack of interest...

If someone wants to sell me something then give me a web address that Norton and McAfee will both verify as safe before opening it.

Right, I'll just sit here sinking into my tar pit whilst doing accounts long hand (yes, I really do!!!) and bar humbugging all technological development. wink

They actually feature on a lot of my advertising materials and you'd be surprised how many people use them.

You need to remember Shaun that not many smart phones have antivirus software as viruses don't seem to be a huge issue with them. This is generally who uses VR codes as they tend to have all the necessary hardware and software. Also antivirus software doesn't normally assess links but rather warns of a virus when the site code is being executed.

Hi Kris,

Norton and McAfee both have site advisor add ons which come with the full security suites. When you list sites in google it tells you in advance whether or not trying to access those sites is advisable.

Whenever anyone posts a link on here I copy the link and paste into google to let my security systems tell me how secure the site is before I attempt to access it.

Since the demise of dial up I think that the coffers of a lot of hackers have been deminished somewhat so I can see a great opportunity in waiting with mobiles for implementing software to dial numbers via something like an 0898 number with auto forwarding (working a bit like the suppliers out there such as Cable & Wireless who piggy back on the BT network).

I remember having an arguement with an ex girlfreind who worked for BT about the dial up redirectors as the only way to make money was for BT to pass their cut of the money on to the people hacking systems.

Just got the "its nothing to do with us" line as she couldn't see the link between BT taking the money and passing it on to people hacking internet connections. Her line was, well if you get hacked it's your security that's insufficient.

My line was that if BT didnt pass the money on to these thieves then they wouldn't do it.

Anyway, on a happier note I think that Norton security 2012 also works with mobile devices so security solutions are now becoming available for this gap in peoples online privacy and security.

To change the subject a little....well, a lot.....

Looking below in the recent topics there is a topic that starts with the question "Really?..........."
Any time I see that I think of Penny waking up in bed next to Raj in the morning after they've both drank too much the night before. Because Raj is sober his inability to talk to girls returns. Penny turns to him rather annoyed - "Really? STILL can't talk to me?"

Cracks me up.

Very funny episode.

I have also seen two episodes now where Sheldon only gets to knock / say Penny twice, before Penny answers, and he still gets in the third one,

Is one of them the one where she slams the door on him but he runs back to say it the third time?

Yes

In the other he is interrupted and after penny has said her piece, tasp lightly taps the door frame, and almost whispers "Penny".

For the life of me, I can't remember the context but as I find them all so funny it gets harder to seperate the individual scenes

Here's a pile of Sheldon knocks - not just for Penny. Some of them I haven't seen before. The best one is when Penny is the other side of the door knocking back with "Sheldon".

I am pretty sure the one I am thinking of is the one that follows the banana bread/ door knob scene at 1:41
