Presentation of paperwork

I do it differently depending on the business. Sometimes I use lever arch folders, sometimes I use square cut folders with filing clip. Other times I use foolscap folder. I managed to get a good deal on strong cardboard storage boxes (pretty colours) last year from WH Smith, so for the last year end clients got all their stuff in folders and in a pretty box.

Kris

p.s. How did you find Michelles stuff.  I've been a bit busy this month, but I plan a part 2 as Michelle managed to get a bank account and some credit from a supplier.

ok so this isn't about P&L's and balance sheets - it's about the hard-copy paper.

Whats the best way to give it back to the client? In the same carrier bag (I'd rather not), or all in date order, or by supplier, or in a folder, or using paperclips, or staples, or simply hammered to a plank with a 6" nail?

I've been doing the exercises on Kris' website (well done, great resource), Michelle's Hairdressing and ABC Gardening - I've almost completed Michelles Hairdressing but I'm not sure how to present the paperwork back to the client (yes I know it's only pretend, but thats not the point...) - any tips?

Hi pDm,

I pass paperwork back to clients in A4 foolscap folders usually with the openside plastic folders combined with the occassional stapled invoice keeping their various bits together.

Whilst it might not sound perfect it's almost always a lot better and more organised that the mess that they dropped on my desk.

HTH,

Shaun.

p.s. did you notice that I pointed a new member who needed some direction towards your blog yesterday! Its definitely becoming a thing (to quote Barney Stinson) and long may it continue

Thanks guys - do from that I take it there is no hard and fast bookkeeping rule on paperwork presentation? I was hoping that was the case. I'll probably extract ideas from you both and come up with my own best-fit. Kris, as for Michelle's, it's excellent. There's a few points I'll email to you via the bkpr.co.uk site - nothing major. But a second month (and a third?!) would make excellent additions. Shaun - I did see your referral, thank you. Always nice to know people are reading :)
