why so many questions about Sage?
Permalink Closed

LOL i was gonna write 'I'm a closet furrophile' but i googled the word first, just in case. It is listed in the Urban Dictionary as someone who likes to engage in naughty stuff, dressed as furry animals. Furophile hahaha (spelt a little differently)

I better put my Winnie the Pooh bathrobe away.

I have been reading this forum for long time. I notice that there are so many people have questions about Sage whilst not so many ask about other software like TAS, QB,OP. Is it because Sage has overwelming users? Or because Sage is not a user-friendly software?

It may have something to do with the level of user too. It does seem to be the software choice for business for some reason and so we get people from all levels using it, from data entry up to year end. Sometimes the data entry people will want to go one step further and hence the questions. The other answer is, Sage has a tendency to lock you out, freeze or corrupt itself. Now i don't think that any of the other programs suffer too badly from these symptoms, but i have encountered these problems with Sage. Another answer is, people posting the same questions over and over again without checking the site first, this could be due to a lack of search facility or just blind panic. I find myself guilty of doing this and so can't say anything about others doing it.

Well i can, cos i'm with stupid ---->

Could it be that practitioners and industry users took that long mastering it that they dread going through the same thing again?

It's not hard to use Tim, just unforgiving with mistakes, especially with journals. It can mess your head up trying to reverse something that somebody else has cocked up lol. Mind you, i'm no Sage expert. In fact i have a copy of QB to play with and to be honest, with all its colours and buttons and stuff it looks pretty scary (and it's an American version so i get to play with dollars, i'm going to set a butty shop up on it and charge eleven dollars for egg and bacon on toast, the price is justified because you get a cocktail stick shoved through the toast to keep it together)

I wonder if it has something to do with a larger portion of people, who use sage, who have a limited knowledge of accounts in general.

Good Morning Steve.

Thats what i meant by data entry. I know of a girl who has done the bank recon process on Sage for about 3 years for a big company. That is all she does and was out of her depth at level 1 in college.

Damn good bank reccer though lol.

I actually sat through an episode of Man v Food the other night.  There was something like 4 lbs of flour and 2lbs of meat in one pizza.

Reversing journals.  I just wouldn't even go there.  Mines got a delete button lol.

Did you see that Purchase Ledger Clerk job in Middleton on Reed.co.uk ref: 21247295.   It's headed Burnley but that must be the head office so you might have missed it.

Thanks Tim, I actually had a phone call form the recruiter about that job funny enough. It is purely Purchase Ledger with no room for progression and although this time last year i would have jumped at the chance, i am holding out for something with a little more variety. The last fella held that position for 6 years.

If we go any further of piste i'm sure we'll bump into shaun.

Haha @ off piste

Tvm for the info as I've sent an application. I want to specialise and for variety I've got the voluntary tax work and can keep my eye on a few clients with my other half doing the day to day stuff.

What you need is your own office. Working for family is my biggest problem at interview, the interviewers have all basically asked the same question, which is 'what if your Dad needs you back' it doesn't matter about my response as by this stage i know how their mind is working and nothing i say will shift the doubt. I suppose it's the same as coming from a self employed background. I am now leaning more towards a job in practice (maybe even self employed) rather than industry and also thinking of stopping studying after completion of AAT unless an employer suggests (and is willing to sponsor) i carry on to study further.

To be honest, when they ask this question directly or indirectly i feel like a naughty schoolboy. I swear i'm going to scream 'i'm nearly 40 for flips sake, this is what i want to do for the next 20 odd years'

I thought the study and qualifications would prove my commitment, i thought wrong.

Yep, I was going to suggest that a search for 'accountancy practice' might bring up some interesting vacancies. I presume I'm too over the hill for those jobs or should I just say I'm 21.

I don't think you should be discriminated against for being an old fart Timbo. Your wit shall prevail!
