Advice on first job while doing Payroll Management
Permalink Closed

Hi everyone,

I'm currently studying the Diploma in Payroll Management and looking for my first job(paid or volunteer). I am not sure whether there can be a paid job while me still learning Payroll... i have completed Manual Payroll till now. I just want to gain some experience along with my studies. I am not sure what to write in my CV for the same and what kind of jobs to look for.

Its been 4 long years i have stopped working due to my kid. He is 4 yrs old now so i want to get back to work as soon as he school.

Am also planning to start AAT level 3(as am getting exemptions of Level 1 and 2 due to my Graduate degree) after finishing Payroll... confuse But that will be next year, have to work first to pay the fees smile

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I'm looking to get into this and build up my experience as soon as possible

Many Thanks,

Yukti

Hi Yukti

If you want to get into payroll my advice would to apply for payroll assistant roles as this would give you the starting experience you need in this field. I actually dont like payroll but ended up doing it for a recruitment company for many years. If no joy in the payroll assisant role then look also at being an accounts assistant as they would normally do a varied type role in the accounts departpent depending on the company, and see also if you can get temp jobs as they help you move around until you get the experience you want.

Thanks Alfred,

Sorry for a late reply as i didn't get any notication in my email that somebody replied.  I did try to apply for Payroll Assistant but they all need experience. I am quite worried to start a business on my own without any experience. I do get Assignments from my tutor but they are not enough. I want to pratice more and more. I started doing Payroll Management thinking that it will help me in getting job and later can start my AAT/ Bookkeeping as per the circumstances... but currently without any experience no body is even ready to give voluntary work.

Temping is the best way to get the experience you need, if you can get a temp role in a finance department and try and move around, you may just be filing paperwork to begin with but then it can lead to more if you sick at it and show you are wiling to take on more responsibility
