Part-qual CIMA....will bookcert be worthwhile
Permalink Closed

Hi fellow book-keepers

I am new to this site and not yet started out.

I have just left my job as accounts assistant to stay home with my baby but I thought

I could start my own bookeeping business in spare time.

I have completed AAT and managerial level of cima so I know my way around

accounts, but not sure where to start my own business.

Do you think bookcert would be worthwhile or will i know most ofvthe info in it?

Thank you

Hi Cheryl,

welcome to the forum.

You've certainly come to the right place for unbaised views on just about everything under the sun. Some of it's even bookkeeping and accountancy related.

As to the direct question s to whether bookcert is worth it, I don't think that you will find too many speaking out against it here not least because of who owns and runs this site.

Have a read of these threads which may prove of some use in your decision as to whether or not to purchase :

http://www.book-keepers.org.uk/t22019381/bookcert/

http://www.book-keepers.org.uk/t14567736/bookcert/

http://www.book-keepers.org.uk/t36983818/is-bookcert-any-good/

http://www.book-keepers.org.uk/t28116768/bookcert/

http://www.book-keepers.org.uk/t16660967/bookcert/

Just cut and paste the above into your browser to take a look at what other people say about it.

Also remember that not taking the website brings it in cheaper if you do decide to go ahead with the purchase.

I would also recomend membership of BKN for £24 in order to get your PII cover for £78 from Arlington (see the site offers).

Are you going to set up via the MAAT MIP route in order to cover you for your MLR?

Anyway, looking forwards to chatting in the coming months

kind regards,

Shaun.

P.S. I am site moderator and a BKN member but have no other links to BKN so no personal financial gain directly or indirectly from the above comments and advice.

I am sure you have seen this but thought I'd post a link click here.

But, my recommendation is to think strategically:

1. How are you going to differentiate yourself?

2. What are you going to offer?

3. How are you going to generate leads?

4. Can you sell and price effectively?

5. Who is your ideal client?

If you can, I would recommend building knowledge/skill so you can do year-end accounts/tax and position yourself as an accountant.

Hi Bob,

Sorry to issue a slight reprimand here and hope that you take this in the site safety concious manner that it's intended, but please don't post blind links.

The Link in Bobs post is just to Amazon and is totally safe. This is the actual link :

http://www.amazon.co.uk/How-Start-Home-Based-Bookkeeping-Business/dp/0762761261/ref=pd_sim_b_2

For others reading this thread NEVER click on blind links or for that matter any links as sometimes the name that appears is nothing to do with what's behind it. Those from Bob will invariably be safe but we've had a few on the site recently (now deleted) that linked to sites that Norton highlighted as dangerous.

For safety, always copy link locations and post into google to let your web checker confirm whether the link is safe.

kind regards,

Shaun.

P.S. As an aside this book is intended for the American Market... So perfect for CIMA people (JOKE!!!!)
