I thought that I knew the answer to this but just really want to clarify from others understanding.
Since 2008 limited companies no longer have to have a company secretary.
Limited companies must have at least one director that is a real person, not another limited company.
If the company has no secretary does it need to have two directors or can a limited company now consist of just one person? (which is my understanding of things).
All of the legitimate places that I look such as companies house the answers are phrased in such as way that the answer is not in itself conclusive. (I want somewhere that gives me both answers in the same place, not a company doesn't need a secretary in one place and a limited company only needs one director in another).
I've not come accross a scenario before of a one person limited company with no second director or secretary in name only but I have a director who wants to be the only named person in the company getting rid of her ex from the company and not replacing him with anyone else.
I think that this is ok but I just thought that I would throw it out there in case anyone had a different opinion.
Any thoughts?

Yes, that's fine. I've got several one person limited company clients that just have one director and no company secretary.
I had a look on Companies House and the following guidance (section one of Chapter 2) seemed pretty conclusive to me. You'd just need to double check that the Articles of the company didn't require there to be a company secretary.

I have to admit to doing "company secretarial" services for clients even though they don't alway have to have one. I find it useful as there are occassions when I need to do something on the company behalf and as the Accountant they would not speak to me, but as the company secretary they will!
