Fuel queues: Anyone having problems getting fuel?
Permalink Closed

Good morning, or at least it would be if I hadn't just spent the last 2 hours queuing for fuel!

Anyone else having problems getting fuel, or is it just us rather 'cautious' folk here in the Midlands?

Can't believe it but our local Sainsbury's petrol station has just closed. Currently got a 1/2 a tank so not worried just yet. hmm

The Government has made a right pigs ear of the whole situation IMO.

Yes, a few garages in South Manchester have now run dry.  I filled up with £80 as I need to travel to Surrey and back at the weekend.  The person in front of me put £8.71 in their tank. Why???

I think they should introduce a minimum spend of say £50, rather than a maximum spend, to stop people topping up.  Although it doesn't help when ministers are telling you to do just that!  no

I was always led to believe that it is better for a car engine for it to be running on a near full tank rather than a near empty one.  Myself I always put in either £20 or £25 but I don't really drive all that much.

I don't really know what the answer is.  Clearly it's a farcical situation and we probably haven't seen the worst of it yet.

Down in Devon it's ridiculous, most stations in Exeter have run out or have huge queues, sometimes blocking roads in the process.

I don't get why people believe everything they hear in the media, there is no strike planned, and there may not be a strike at all, they are just sheep following everyone else, it's a joke.

A couple of garages here in SE London ran out yesterday evening. I did fill the cars up yesterday after seeing a queue at Tesco which is more expensive than others around! This morning hubby told me the garages that were closed yesterday pm now have fuel. We try to keep the cars full just in case. Haven't been passed a garage today so don't know if they are have queues but yesterday it was only 2 or 3 cars queuing around 1pm.

but the weight of that fuel is going to do terrible things to your petrol economy.(Think of it as carrying a full fish tank around with you).

Unless I'm popping to Scotland I generally try to keep the tank at around a third to half full.

Around here we've had a few run dry caused by panic buying but the petrol stations are quickly restocked.

Worst I've had was pulling onto Tesco forecourt with no way of going backwards only to find carrier bag on all of the unleaded pumps! Would it have hurt them to put a "No unleaded" sign at the entrance. grrr.

Half full (note half full, not half empty smile) is the optimum for most car suspension systems, as there is a comprimise for the variable.

Think that my twinning of speed bumps with a mix between ski jumps and a slalem course is probably much worse for my cars suspension Bill.... wink

Bonkers... there must be better ways of getting people spending to help the economy avoid shrinking (it was done just before the end of the quarter) - or maybe that's just being cynical.

Electric car anyone?
