I'm studing on Sage Instant account v14. My first year free support is long gone. The problems which occurred to me are:
1) Program is swiching off any time when I try to do Bank Reconciliation
2) Whenever I try to use bank transfer or post recurring antry there the same message: Please enter a valid Department reference.
But I do not have any Departments and there is no space for them anyway!!!! I can go further but can one really does everything via Journal? Especially recurring entries? Any help would be VERY appreciated! Thanks
Not a Sage user but 'departments' are common in payroll but perhaps not so common in bookkeeping software. As for connecting theml; over to anyone... bump lol
I do know the current IAB Sage students are being given Sage L50. They get 6 months free automatically, but if they need it, it is possible to extend it to up to 18 months.
Alia send me an e-mail and I'll give you a tip on who to get more out of your sage software. (I won't give this information out to anyone esle, so please don't ask!)
I installed program again on different computer and everything start to work correctly ... for a full day, and than again the same massages. I really do not have any department options in this version, I checked.... But even if I had, how could I set them up since I do not know about them any way... Sage ask me as well to updates program. When I did not wanted that it refuse to open program. I have filing that this updates make problem..... Any suggestions pleas ....?
Could it be that that last line is the reason for the update, i.e. a bug fix? Usually, things like that listed in an update description are telling you what the update fixes.
So perhaps you should do the update rather than refusing it.
Well, the problem is that program works properly until I update. And what the massage in update details is exact problem I have afterwards .......and I CANNOT refuse update cause program does not open otherwise... :(
You said you reinstalled the program on a different computer. How about finding yet another computer to try it on, but this time, don't connect to the internet from just before you install the program until after you've finished doing what you want to do. In other words, don't let the program online. May not work if the software is checking the date locally, but if it is checking for updates online and then refusing to work if it finds any, it may just continue to work if it finds none.
Don't know if this program *requires* internet access to work - don't know this program at all - but trying to think of a solution from the IT point of view.
to be honest I did that as well, simply disconnecting internet - sage didn't want to open at all...... start to hate this thing. I wrote e-mail to sage asking them to undo my update. in the end - since i bought the program i should have choice, shouldn't i........?
To clarify what I was getting at, since I'm not sure from what you say that you get what I mean...
Perhaps the fact that your installation of v14 has now realised there are updates means that it'll refuse to work until you do them. In other words, without getting into mucking around in Windows operations, it's too late for the installation you are already using. Therefore, disconnecting the internet now will make no difference, it has already been told there are updates to do.
What I was suggesting was installing the program afresh on another computer with no internet attached during the installation, and leaving it off the internet completely from then on. Then use the program until you have worked through everything you need to. That way, the new installation won't realise that there are any updates to do at all, and might not complain.
However, I do emphasise that it may not work if the program uses other means to see about updates, e.g. the current date being a set time later than when the program was made. In that case, it gets more complicated.
But I agree, if you buy something it should continue to work even if you refuse to update it - albeit with old functionality. Might just be worth checking your EULA to make sure that it doesn't limit your use after a set time.
If you have installed nothing else on the latest computer you tried it on - or, at, least, nothing else important - you can try using Windows' System Restore to go back to before you installed Sage, and try with that setup.
Ensure you have backups of ALL your data, not on the same computer (i.e. USB stick, CD-RW, the other computer, etc) - while System Restore shouldn't affect your data and generally works fine, if you hit the one-in-a-million situation which screws up Windows completely, and you need to reinstall your operating system, then you'll lose your existing data, If you are unsure about System Restore, and have no-one to ask local to you, then remember you use it at your own risk.
I try to keep out of the Sage posts but I've stayed with the thread regardless in case it went from Sage to Windows assistance that was required although I think that Rob was all over that one (excellent advice there Rob, think the sites now got itself a new techie expert. I'll keep Excel and you can haver the rest. Sorted).
kind regards,
Shaun.

@Shaun: I don't even use Excel, fine by me. I'll just give OpenOffice Calc advice instead. ;)
(Actually, not entirely true. I use Excel for a D&D Character Sheet since OO Calc messes up the formatting.)
@Alia: You're welcome. Glad you've got it sorted! If there was anything you did other than the System Restore thing, which other Sage users might find useful, perhaps you could post that here for future searchers?
