renting a ramp to self employed mechanic

Hi I hope this is in the right section I am trying to fing out if i should be charging vat on the rent of a ramp to a self employed mechanic for him to use as and when he needs it, he is fully selfemployed does no work for me and is regulary working for other people, he has his own key so can work when he wants, I charge him £120 week, I am vat registerd but not sure if this is vatable or not i seem to recall hairdressers have a different ruling and it is the same setup really,any help would be appreciated

Didn't this hairdressers ruling recently change in the budget?

Thanks for the reply, yes it was changed in this budget but reasons due were that the customers were able to use waiting rooms,sinks and other features my situation is just using the ramp nothing else,

I would say you are hiring equipment, much like Speedy Hire might hire a cement mixer. Therefore you should charge VAT.

You are not renting a space in your workshop, which would just be an empty workbay
