Does this ring a bell?  What do people expect you to say?  you explain your services but i get the impression thats not what they want to hear.

They should re-phrase their question to "How much tax can you save me by filtering out expenses?"

So how do you explain what services you offer

How about:

We can help you get paid quicker by tracking the people who owe you money better and by helping you to produce invoices quicker.

We can help you stay on the right side of the tax man by claiming every single expenses you are entitled to, but not a penny more.

We can give you some guidance to better manage your cashflow and improve your businesses chances of still being here next year.

We can help you make informed decisions for your businesses future by giving you all the information you need in a way you can understand it.

Just a few to keep you going.

Kris

Thanks Kris,

I have a friend who is not happy with he's accountant because he's accountant doesn't claim anymore on he's expenses. he's words were "i'm sure i can claim for a lot more"

Are all clients expecting you to claim more for them?

Certainly all my clients know I will do as much as I can to make sure they pay as little tax as possible with regards expenses, short of breaking the law that is.

I haven't had anyone push me, a few have tried to sneak through receipts for clothes and sandwiches, but I don't think they are attempting to break the law, just unsure of what they can claim. Once I tell them I have no issues.

Kris

Ive had that before too Kris; Client of mine owns a beauty business, does things like nails, eyebrows, etc, high class stuff. Well going through the files and receipts for the year I came up with one such receipt that had their name on... upon futher investigation it was a treatment for THEM, and tried to slip it in there! lol.

'Oh sorry that shouldn't be there' was the reply i got.. :) lolit was only a couple hundered quid but still something that shouldn't be claimed for.

As I work with clients on R&D claims it's quite a simple one - "I can offer you a tax credit or refund based on the amount you have spent on R&D activites in the past 2 years"
